Working 15 years in social/educational policy for local authorities, I became more aware and sensitive to the impacts of climate disruption, notably thanks to a Climate Fresk. But life is busy, and I often buried my head in the sand instead of taking the bull by the horns. I eventually reached a point where I felt I should put my passion to address environmental challenges at the heart rather than at the edge of my activities.
After moving to the US in 2022, I decided to jump in and raise awareness about climate change and other planetary boundaries, among other involvements by becoming a Climate Fresk facilitator. I'm also a facilitator for other workshops: Circular Economy Collage, Planetary Boundaries Fresco, Digital Collage.
Let me share my top personal reasons for enthusiasm about facilitating Climate Fresks, which trigger a whole-body motion among participants throughout the different stages of the workshop:
π Head: It's truly gratifying to observe participants progressively enhance their understanding of the causal relations regarding climate change while (re)discovering IPCC data and positioning cards, to see their ears wide open to listen to their playmates, their mouth livening up to contribute to collective intelligence thanks to their questions or insights, their eyes lighting up as they have a "aha moment"...
π€ π Hands & head: "The Circle of life: change, adapt, live", " The screaming man in blue", "Hope requires change"... I'm always very impressed by the participants' boundless creativity while personalizing their Fresk, whether by drawing or finding a title.
β€οΈ Heart: Sharing emotions and energy, although the most personal and sensitive stage, is a high point of the workshop, and usually brings together participants in a shared will to roll up their sleeves and turn knowledge into action.
π€ πββοΈ Hands (again) & legs: It's heartening to see countless suggestions of levers of action suddenly abound on sticky notes and participants leave the workshop with strong personal short-term commitments!
